Abstract:

AbstractThis paper argues that the six-book Republic used by the lexical author known as the Antiatticista is not, as hitherto conveniently assumed, our Republic arranged in fewer books, but a sub-final version lacking certain parts, most obviously VIII and most of IX, and possessing interesting variations. The argument rests on what would otherwise be a very high error-rate (38%) compared with the more reliable citations of other Platonic works, and with the citations of Herodotus and Thucydides. It demonstrates that VIII and most of IX belong stylistically to the opposite extreme from I, and may therefore be the last composed. It argues that the Platonic collection used by the Antiatticista antedates hiatus-avoiding dialogues, and belongs to a location other than Athens or Alexandria, and probably in Sicily or Italy. It concludes that one cannot trust any attempt to arrange our Republic by the notional six-book order.

Abstract:

The objective of this study was to determine the use of translation shift of preposition phrase in the Kopkamtib Operation Chapter VIII and IX. The translation shift that occurred in the data collected by the researcher was a category shift consisting of unit shift, intersystem shift, class shift and also structure shift. The researcher conducted a comprehensive analysis of Chapters VIII and IX in this book to find the occurrence of translation shifts. The research method used by the researcher is a qualitative method with a content analysis approach. The results of this study indicate that there are 18 shift of preposition phrase data found by researchers randomly. Translation Shift that occur are there are 8 data belonged to structure shift, 4 data belonged to intersystem shift, 3 data belonged to class shift and 3 data belonged to unit shift. This study concludes that a translation shift is something that must happen and cannot be avoided in the process of translating a text. But, although there were translation shift and semantic transition that happened in this book, it didn’t make so many problems in the quality and quantity of the text.

AbstractThis article proposes an interpretation of the chapters of the Nicomachean Ethics concerning exchange and friendship. Rejecting approaches where Aristotle anticipates modern labour or need-based theories of value, the article claims that those notions of labour and need are required for a satisfactory interpretation of the most obscure passages of Book V. Finally, Aristotle's texts on exchange and friendship are related in such a way that the latter, since it is free from any political considerations, allows us to better understand the philosopher's view on exchange.

AbstractIn the present composition of the Book of Amos, a striking relationship can be found between the hymns (Am. iv 13; v 8; ix 5-6) and three of the five vision-reports (vii 1-3, 4-6; ix 1-4). Thus, at least the second part of the Book is presented as a 'progress of doom', in which the prophet is more and more absorbed in the execution of YHWH's judgment, personally and qua communicative strategy. The second pair of vision-reports (vii 7-9; viii 1-3) serve in the current shape of the Book as a framework for the so-called biographical section Am. vii 10-17. This composition is aimed at a reading audience that is exhorted to learn from the bad example of Amaziah and to believe the divine origin of Amos' words.

Abstract:

<p>Textbooks that are too difficult to read will decrease students’ motivation in learning, while textbooks that are too easy to read will make students less interested in reading them. Therefore, the readability analysis needs to be done so that the textbooks used as learning media are suitable for the students who become the target readers of the books. This study analyzes the texts in Junior High School English textbooks entitled “English in Focus” grades VII, VIII, and IX published by the Center of Book Archieve of the Department of National Education by using cloze procedure. The tests were carried out in SMPN 1 Gunungputri and SMP Sejahtera 2 Cileungsi, involving students in grades VII, VIII, and IX. The texts tested were adapted to their grade levels. The tests were made in the form of 100 words which were then omitted at every 5th word. The readability results of “English in Focus” textbook are that not all texts in the book are suitable for students who use it. If the books are considered as suitable teaching material, these books need some changes because there are 6 texts from the total of 24 texts that are considered too difficult for students.</p><p>Keywords: textbook assessment, readability, cloze procedure</p>

Abstract:

The partition of the soul is used extensively, both in Book iv and in Books viii-ix of the Republic, to describe and to explain the structure, growth, and decay, of just and unjust cities and souls. Plato has in mind a single conception of the three parts of the soul, and he expounds it gradually. He recognizes different grades of rationality in desire. These grades help us to understand the roles of the partition of the soul in Plato’s argument.

A subject search alone on Amazone finds 170. Abstract:

This research analyzed vocabulary profile used in one series of English textbooks currently used in Indonesian Junior High School. The sample text books were: When English Rings a Bell for grades VII, VIII, and Think Globally Act Locally for grade IX. These books have been recommended by the Ministry of Education and Culture for use in Indonesian Junior High Schools. This research used Classic Vocabulary Profileras a tool to profile vocabulary in the text books. The overall profile shows that vocabulary coverage of the most frequently used words (K1 and K2) was 92.65%, indicating that it is below the necessary level (95%) for easy comprehension. The analysis also reveals negative vocabulary profile, that is proportions of word families in K1 and K2 groups that were not found in the text books. This study recommends to improve the text book comprehensibility.

Abstract:

This study describes the results of research regarding: (1) The types of text listed in the English textbooks used by the teacher are books published by Intan Pariwara, (2) The level of readability of books used by teachers published by Intan Pariwara in class IX in SMAN Grogol 2 Kediri. This research uses descriptive qualitative as a research technique. The method used in this research is interviews with English teachers, calculations with FRY graph formulas, and documentation. The research results obtained are: (1) The types of text found in the English book entitled Bahasa Inggris published by Intan Pariwara are announcement text, advertisem*nt text, procedure text, report text, descriptive text, narrative text, and recount text. (2) for the calculation of the readability level using the FRY graph formula, the researcher gave a limit to the type of text used for the study, namely Narrative text with a total of two reading texts and Report text with a total of two reading texts. The results obtained have different numbers, namely from those that are too easy or not according to the user level, namely for class VII, for class VIII, and there is one text that corresponds to the user level, namely for class IX, and one text for class X.

Abstract:

I'rab learning is one of the aspects that must be studied by a student to help read the Yellow Book, but in fact, there was some student who have difficulty to the understanding I'rab, therefore, it is necessary to research to find out these problems. This research aims to identify whether the problems of students and teachers in this I'rab learning. This research uses a qualitative method with the case study type, data sources were taken to eight informants through direct interviews using a set of interview protocols. All the data were analyzed thematically using NVivo 12 Software. The research findings found nine main themes about the problems of students and teachers in I'rab learning. The nine themes consist of three problematic students themes: i) low vocabulary mastery (مفردات), ii) difficulty in I'rab sentences (جملة) in the Yellow Book, iii) lack of mastery of I'rab terms. Furthermore, the six teachers of problematic themes in I'rab learning include: iv) the teacher not teaching according to the ability of the students, v) less varied learning, vi) learning is only centered in one direction (Teacher Center), vii) teachers placement by expertise, viii) teachers changes frequently, and ix) mastering the concept of learning by the teacher was lacking. The results of this research can be used as preliminary data for future researchers in examining these problems in the context of different issues.

Abstract:

In 1571, Christian Schesaeus (1535?–1585) published his most important work, the four-book historical account entitled Ruina Pannonica, in Wittenberg. This verse work covers the history of Hungary from 1540 until 1552. The Wittenberg edition also contains the three-book Historia de bello Pannonico about Suleiman I’s final campaign in Hungary, which took place in 1566. Centuries later manuscripts were found containing five books which were identified as books V-VIII and XII of the Ruina Pannonica. Josef Trausch proposed that the apparently missing books IX-XI were in fact the three books of the Historia de bello Pannonico. István Hegedűs even asserted that from the beginning Schesaeus wanted to write a great epos in twelve books on the model of Vergil’s Aeneid, centering around the life and rule of John II (1540-1571). He also viewed Schesaeus as a precursor of transylvanianism. On the basis of these assumptions, Ferenc Csonka, the editor of the Schesaeus corpus, published a twelve-book edition of the Ruina Pannonica. Péter Kulcsár argued that this editorial decision was problematic on several grounds, holding that while Schesaeus did have the intention of expanding his work, he never completed this project. In this paper, I argue that the four books of the Ruina Pannonica published in Wittenberg constitute a complete work with its own cohesive message and objectives, that the original idea has certainly not been to write a long work covering the period from 1540 until 1571 and concentrating on John II, who was still alive when the work was written, and that Schesaeus can hardly be considered a precursor of transylvanianism.

Abstract:

Al-Muhasibi was a phenomenal figure in the VIII-IX centuries who mastered several disciplines, especially fiqh and al-hadith as well as Sufism. Al-Muhasibi was born in Iraq in 781 AD (165 AH). His thoughts in the field of Sufism can be found in several of his monumental works, among others, in ar-Risalah lil Huquqillah, al-Washoya aw an-Nashoih, Risalah al-Mustarsyidin, al-Masail fi A'mal al Qulub wa al-Jawarih wa al- Makasib wa al-Aql and Fi Fahm al Qur'an (understanding the Koran). The book of al-Masail fi A'mal al-Qulub wa al-jawarih fi al-Makasib wa-al-Aql by al-Muhasibi essentially leads to spiritual education so that people are clean in mind, have a clear heart and sincerely seek forgiveness and love of Allah in their activities. The Methode used in this paper is qualitative content analysis. This book explaned about zuhud and keeping the body as good as possible to achieve the mercy and blessing from the God the almighty. al Muhasibi explained that people who have simple ideals will cause that person to have positive activities and always be zuhud in spending their assets. This is because, he is afraid that his property will be lost so that he cannot spend it according to Allah's command. al-Muhasibi's thoughts in his book al Masail fi A'mal al-Qulub wa al-jawarih fi al Makasib Wa al-Aql to be used as a qudwah (model) for human behavior. The behavior referred to here is both in the context of human interaction in the vertical dimension, namely interacting with God (Allah), as well as in the horizontal application level, namely human interaction with other humans.
