https://lnkd.in/gRnFhZjdThis seems like a looney era when a mere meme posted on someone's social media has huge (or at the very least big) impacts in the stock market (e.g., Robin Hood stopping buying). Nothing of substance or otherwise-newsworthy at all, no references to any company, no credible information of any economic relevance like buyouts or negotiations, no revelations of future economic plans or group/pact activity à la "Diamond Hands"/"WallStreetBets"... just a (former) trader and (in all reality) social media influencer posting something cryptic.This isn't Musk or Trump making seismic activity on social media with strong opinions and the ability to exert great influence on specific sectors. If one random tweet with nothing of substance can create this kind of a shift, how sensitive and susceptible to misdirection really is the U.S. stock market?(As an aside, GameStop couldn't do anything with its meme money. Its NFT investments flopped along with that market, and physical media sales have sloped to the point of their stores becoming merchandise locales selling t-shirts and other misc. trinkets, occasional game accessories like controllers, etc. There's no plan going forward to stop themselves from becoming gaming's Blockbuster. GameStop brought on a new CEO in September, and it seems he's going to try and breathe a bit of fresh air into the lovechild company of meme investors.The Q3 2024 results were released, showing a decrease of revenue for GameStop compared to last year. However, they have also hugely cut costs, and their losses for the year decreased dramatically.GameStop seems to be following a smart strategy by closing down some of it's physical stores. More and more gamers are taking their shopping fully digital and it sure looks like Gamestop is trying to keep up with the times.The new CEO has also been given complete freedom when it comes to allocating their investment capital. It will be interesting to see whether a combination of this, and some savvy business direction-changing, could bring GameStop fully back from the dead and into the modern games industry again.I'd be interested to know what others' thoughts are on the matter.#games #gamestop #gamesindustry #business #q4success #csuite
