WARNING! This article contains SPOILERS for That '90s Show part 3!Both of Michael Kelso’s kids are featured in That ‘90s Show part 3, with a big argument between the two helping to shed some light on the family’s marital drama in the years after That ‘70s Show. In the series premiere, That ‘90s Show not only revealed that Jackie and Kelso were married, but also had a teenage son named Jay. This came as somewhat of a surprise, as Kelso had last been seen living in Chicago with Brooke and his daughter Betsy, while Jackie had just begun a romance with Fez in Point Place.
Jackie and Kelso’s brief cameos in That ‘90s Show’s series premiere revealed that they were getting re-married, as they had previously been married and divorced twice after That ‘70s Show’s timeline. While this wasn’t too shocking given their frequent break-ups in the original sitcom, their family life was given little explanation from Jay or any other That ‘90s Show characters thereafter. However, with Betsy Kelso (Kira Kosarin) returning in That ‘90s Show part 3, some gaps in knowledge about the Kelso family’s history are filled in.
Jay & Betsy Mention Kelso & Jackie's Complicated Relationship In That '90s Show
Kelso & Jackie's Split Is A Sore Spot For Jay
While the details surrounding what happened to Betsy Kelso after That ‘70s Show are quite vague, it’s clear that she has frequently come to Point Place and maintained a tight relationship with Jay and her father. When Betsy returns to Point Place after studying in Spain, she ends up meeting and hooking up with Jay’s best friend Nate, leading to plenty of drama between the three over the summer of 1996. At one point, Jay and Betsy get into an argument that sees them lodge Kelso’s dramatic romantic history at one another.

The return of Michael Kelso's daughter, Betsy, in That '90s Show part 3 continues a plot hole issue that was established in the sequel series' debut.

As an insult to Betsy, Jay notes that “Dad stayed with my mom,” noting how Kelso and Betsy’s mother Brooke only briefly dated before separating in That ‘70s Show. Meanwhile, Kelso ended up marrying Jay’s mother Jackie, who he’s still with during That ‘90s Show part 3. However, Betsy responds with “Not for those three years in the middle,” followed by Jay screaming “We don’t talk about that!,” clearly showing Betsy hit a sore spot for her brother.
Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis have yet to reprise their roles as Michael Kelso and Jackie Burkhart again after their That '90s Show series premiere cameo.
Betsy’s comment sheds some light on one of Jackie and Kelso’s dramatic divorces before That ‘90s Show, revealing that there was a three-year period where the two were divorced. Since Betsy describes it as being “in the middle,” this suggests that Jackie and Kelso’s big divorce happened around 1985 or 1986. The two would then get back together for a few more years before divorcing yet again, leading to Jackie and Kelso getting remarried in That ‘90s Show’s series premiere.

That '90s Show Still Doesn't Explain What Happened To Brooke
Will Brooke Come Back In That '90s Show?
With Betsy Kelso coming “home” for the summer in That ‘90s Show part 3, the question remains of what happened to Brooke. Betsy’s mother was last seen in That ‘70s Show season 7 after she was born, with the family then moving to Chicago during season 8. However, since Betsy is seemingly returning “home,” this implies that she either grew up in Point Place with Kelso full-time or spent at least half her upbringing in the town. Therefore, it’s possible that Brooke moved back to Point Place, remained in Chicago while Betsy went to Wisconsin, or is no longer around.

That '70s Show returns set two decades later with That '90s Show, acting as a sequel but bringing back old cast favorites. Led by Red (Kurtwood Smith) and Kitty (Debra Jo Rupp) Forman, the new cast arrives as the next generation, with the daughter of Eric and Donna, Leia Forman, leading the charge. Spending the summer with her grandparents, Leia makes new friends and forges new bonds in Point Place, Wisconsin. That '70s Show series regulars make cameos in the show to maintain that sense of familiarity, and the show adopts the conventions of the '90s as expected. That '90s Show first aired on Netflix with a total of ten episodes.
